Dr. Albert H. Marcus of Altamonte Springs, FL, formerly of Hingham, died in Florida at his home on Monday, March 27, 2023. He was 93 years old. Dr. Marcus was born in Quincy to the late Herman and Sadie (Rudinsky) Marcus, who emigrated from Eastern Europe.
Dr. Marcus attended Boston University for his undergraduate studies and earned his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and his residency at Boston City Hospital, Boston University Medical Center. From 1960 – 1962, Dr. Marcus was a captain in the United States Air Force at the Columbus Air Force Base in Columbus, Mississippi where he served as an obstetrician/gynecologist. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Dr. Marcus was on the Medical Staff of South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for 42 years. He was Chair of the Department of OB/GYN from 1978 – 1981 and served as President of the Medical Staff at South Shore Hospital from 1985 – 1986. He also served on the Credentials Committee at South Shore Hospital. In addition to his responsibilities at South Shore Hospital, Dr. Marcus served on a number of committees of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS): Interspecialty Committee, Nominating Committee, and Chairperson of the Managed Care Committee, and Chairperson of the Norfolk South District Medical Society. In addition, he was a member of the Interspecialty Advisory Committee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. He also served as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and he was Chairperson of the Practices Committee of District 1 of ACOG. He was also a member of the Ob Gyn Executive Committee of Bay State Health Care, and a member of the Executive Committee of Pilgrim Healthcare.
Dr. Marcus is survived by his wife, Dr. Estelle Stetz- Marcus; his children, Jeffery & Elizabeth Marcus of Massachusetts, Julie Marcus, M.D. & Mary McLaren, M.D. of Minnesota, Matthew Marcus Esq. & Mary Marcus of Massachusetts, Adrienne Marcus & Brook Ellis of Rhode Island and Jessica Stetz M.D. of New York and his grandchildren, Zachary, Anna, Eliza, Harry, Sadie, Julia, and Nicholas. He was the brother of the late Leslie Marcus. Funeral services and burial took place in Massachusetts.
