David Flaxer left this earth on Saturday July 16, 2022. He was born on November 21, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Abraham Flaxer and Jean Cohen Snyder. The family relocated to Miami, Florida in 1949 and David graduated from Miami Senior High and the University of Miami with degrees in political sciences and law. He practiced criminal law n Miami where he met the love of his life of 50 years Eivor (Zackrisson) Flaxer. After marriage the young family relocated to Orlando in 1963 and David became an Assistant State Attorney. Thereafter he became Chief Assistant to Public Defender Bill Frederick, who late became Mayor of Orlando for three terms.
The family grew as Eivor bore a son Mark and Daughter Melissa. Later, grandson Tony Longobardo and granddaughters, Abby & Janine Flaxer enriched his life, and he celebrated their achievements.
David was a singer through college and law school, and performed at clubs and as a Cantor in his synagogue. He was avid reader and subscribed to so many magazines that family joked that the broke the postman's back. He was a longtime choir member and assistant cantor at Congregation of Reform Judaism for over 30 years.
Late in his career, David developed an interest in the Juvenile Court System, where he defended parents who had trouble raising their children as well as children who got into legal trouble. He relished helping people at critical stages in their lives. He was honored by the Florida Bar in 2012 as a 50 years member and retiring in 2020.
He will be fondly remembered by family, friends and fellow lawyers as an optimist, story-teller and above all as a genuine mensch.
Graveside Services for David will be held 11:00 AM Thursday July 21, 2022 at the Pavilion of Temple Israel Cemetery (9302 Morton Jones Road) with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. Interment will follow the service at Beth Israel Cemetery in Gotha, Florida
