Helen was born in Brooklyn NY on January 23, 1923, to loving parents Nathan and Annie Blaweiss, the third of four children. She had a happy childhood with a close knit family. On December 6, 1942, she married Jerome Lewin. It being wartime, she experienced the trauma of seeing her husband, as well as two brothers and a brother-in-law, go off to fight. Thankfully, all returned home safe and sound.
On April 8, 1949, Helen gave birth to identical twin girls, Michele and Marilyn. She and Jerry settled in Queens, first in Middle Village, then in the veterans housing cooperative in Queens Village. In addition to taking care of her home and children, she also worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the business she and Jerry owned - part time at first, then full time when her children were grown. Her organizational skills were evident at home too, where she kept a tight rein on all of the household finances. Helen and Jerry retired in 1978 and moved to Orlando, where they became active in their community and made many new friends. In 2011, they moved south to Aston Gardens in Parkland FL. Helen and Jerry were married for 72 years, until Jerry's death in 2015.
In addition to Michele and Marilyn, Helen is survived by four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom received an abundance of love and care. She was always kind, patient, non-judgmental and generous with her love and her time; qualities that she passed on, in some measure, to her children and grandchildren. She was one of those rare people who knew that we have an infinite quantity of love to give away, and the more we give away, the more we have to give. The world was a better place because Helen was here, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held at Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Arnold Siegel of Jewish Family Services officiating.
