John Jeremias Stein, age 82, passed away on November 21, 2018, in Orlando. The beloved uncle to Rabbi Stephen Chicurel-Stein, Dr. Steven Chicurel-Stein, Lara Rachlin Steinel, Daniel V. Steinel, and dear friend to the staff of Gentry Park Assisted Living in Orlando FL, died peacefully, listening as he wished, to the music of Mozart.

Born in 1938, in Germany, John and his family found refuge in St. Louis, where he lived and graduated from SIU-Edwardsville. His service as a Navy submariner was a highlight of his life, and he was proud to have worked both as a social worker caring for the indigent, and later, for decades, as the warehouse manager for Midwest Industrial Chemicals.

Every animal John encountered, he adored, and they him, most particularly his adopted dogs and cats. Great music and fine arts filled his soul with hoy and meaning, and he always showed affection and gratitude to anyone who was kind to him.

He is gone, but his light shines on.
