Burton R. Chasnov passed away on January 15, 2023 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara( Taylor) Chasnov, daughter, Beth Nance (James), Skye Reiner (Keith), and grandson, Benjamin Sauer. He also is survived by his close cousin, Freyda Cohen, sister in law, Ronna Hellman, and many generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jerome and Lillian Chasnov and his brother, Gary Chasnov.
He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn College where he was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity. He received his bachelor’s degree and became a Certified Public Accountant. He started his accounting career working in the Arthur Anderson New York office. In 1973, he relocated to Orlando and worked for Laventhol, Krekstein, Horwarth, and Horwarth. In 1978 he opened his own CPA business where he practiced for many years.
Burt was a Jewish community leader and was recognized by many organizations for his expertise and guidance. His involvement included Shalom Orlando (Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando), Jewish Community Center, Israel Bonds, Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, Kinneret, Congregation Ohev Shalom, Chabad, Heritage Jewish News, Tampa Orlando Pinellas Jewish Foundation, United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism Southeast Region and National Board, Camp Ramah Darom, PJ Library, and the Congregation of Ohev Shalom Cemetery.
Burt was able to give expert advise objectively. His peers respected and looked to him for an honest assessment of any situation. He strived for every organization to be fiscally responsible and that is one of his greatest legacies.
His memory WILL be a blessing and we will all greatly miss him.
Funeral Services for Burt will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Pavilion of Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Geoffrey Spector, Rabbi Aaron Rubinger and Cantor Jeffrey Weber officiating.
Shivah will be at Congregation Ohev Shalom (613 Concourse Parkway South, Maitland) Tuesday and Wednesday night at 7:00 PM and at the Chasnov Family Home in Longwood Thursday night at 7:00 PM.
