Murray J Brooks, 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 25th at his home, after an extended illness. He was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Benedictine Military Academy and attended The University of Georgia, where he was a proud member of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity. He then served with honor in The United States Army. In the early 1960’s Murray re-located to Winter Park Florida where he launched his life’s work of what became Brooks Beauty of Orlando. His integrity, humor, style, and business decisions earned him great respect and admiration from his professional peers. He was a member of the Congregation of Reform Judaism, and The Interlachen Country Club.
Murray was preceded in death by his parents Ann and Harry Brooks, and his step grandson Kyle Rowlinson. He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Godfrey Brooks, and his sister Sheila Kamensky Gerstein. Two adoring nieces Carla Zion (David), Robyn Freedman (Ken), three stepchildren Greg Godfrey (Regina), Lisa Searls (Kirk), and his cherished stepdaughter Lauri Godfrey. He was gifted with ten amazing nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren, and twelve great nieces, and step great grandchildren.
Murray was an incredible individual. From his earliest age he never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all. He had an amazing ability to share his wealth of knowledge and his compassion and excitement about life. He and Betsy traveled the world and made friends around the globe. His passion for sports both on land and at sea, were plentiful. His love of golf helped define many of his most treasured moments. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog’s Fan and stood firmly behind them in both good years and bad. Most of all Murray loved his country, his pet dogs, and his family. Murray was deeply loved and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Congregation of Reform Judaism (928 Malone Drive, Orlando, FL) with Rabbi Rachael Jackson and Rabbi Emeritus Steven Engel of Congregation of Reform Judaism officiating. Interment will follow at Palm Cemetery, Winter Park, Florida.
