Lois (Gladstein) Palis, passed away peacefully at home her Maitland, Florida on April 12, 2026 surrounded by friends and family. She was born in Oceanside, New York on September 2, 1954 to the late Jerome & Belle (Sefekar) Gladstein of blessed memory.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years Robert Palis of Maitland, Florida and her brother, Robert (Jovina) Gladstein, of Phoenix, Arizona in addition to numerous cousins.
Lois was many things, an intellectual forever curious about the world, a loving wife, a wonderful friend, a teacher, an artist and a lover of animals.
Lois was a citizen of the world, a lover of travel and languages, and was fluent in French and Spanish. She was especially proud that she worked for many years at the United Nations in Geneva as a translator. She previously taught English as a second language in Washington, DC .
Lois earned both bachelor and master's degrees at Brandeis University. She spent her junior year in Paris, and traveled around Europe to Switzerland and Italy. Lois met Robert in Washington DC where Lois worked as a translator and Robert worked at the French Embassy. They became engaged in Cairo, Egypt while Robert was working at the French Embassy. Lois then traveled to Israel to work on a kibbutz, learning Hebrew in her spare time.
Always carrying a deep affinity for Judaism in her heart, Lois and her husband spent their honeymoon in Israel, climbing Mount Sinai. The couple was married at the Congregation of Reformed Judaism in Orlando and had their reception at Maison and Jardin, a French restaurant in Altamonte Springs before returning to France.
Lois loved animals, especially cats, and knew the name of every cat and dog in her neighborhood.
Graveside Service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Congregation Ohev Shalom Cemetery (6034 Old Winter Garden Road, Orlando, FL) with Rabbi Arnold Siegel of Jewish Family Services officiating. May she rest in peace and may her memory always be a blessing.
