Sandra Cohen (née Albert), lovingly known as Sandy, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Lake Mary, Florida, at the age of 87. Born on July 11, 1938, in New York City to Lou & Ruth (Friedman) Albert, Sandy lived a life marked by resilience, humor, and an unwavering devotion to her family and faith.
Sandy faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength and determination. After the sudden passing of her beloved husband Sol when she was just 41 years old, Sandy embarked on a new career as an insurance agent, navigating Long Island’s roads with only a map under the glow of streetlights for guidance. She worked tirelessly for years for her three girls. Her dedication paid off when she earned the prestigious "Rookie of the Year" award for top sales during her first year, an acknowledgement so well deserved.
Family was Sandy’s whole heart. She is survived by her three daughters—Helene, Erica, and Gayle—who carry forward her legacy of love and laughter. She was also a cherished grandmother to Jacob, Lee, Sophia, and Hannah. Sandy’s granddaughter, Nina Karlinsky predeceased her but she continued to inspire her grandma every day.
Sandy had a vibrant personality that left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Known for her sharp wit and candid humor, she taught her children how to find light even in life’s darkest moments. Her direct yet hilarious remarks were embraced by those who knew her best—a reflection of her authenticity and charm. A woman of many talents and interests, Sandy found joy in playing the piano, reading voraciously, researching coins, gardening, and cultivating succulents. Her creativity extended into the kitchen as well; she grew up Jewish and took pride in preparing exquisite seders filled with delicious dishes like matzoh ball soup, stuffed cabbage, and brisket. Her knishes are revered to this day. Later in life, Sandy’s connection to Judaism deepened further when she proudly became a Bat Mitzvah at the age of 66.
In recent years, after moving from West Palm Beach to Lake Mary, Sandy treasured precious time spent with family. She delighted in lunches out with her grandsons and daughter in-law, movie nights, piano sessions, and sharing her most recent book recommendations. These moments created the most beautiful and precious memories.
Sandy was predeceased by her beloved husband Sol; parents Ruth and Lou Albert; and granddaughter Nina Karlinsky. Her strength of spirit lives on through those who survive her—her daughters Helene (and Dan) Erica, Gayle (and Dwight); grandchildren Jacob (and Amber), Lee, Sophia, Hannah; as well as all who were fortunate enough to know her. May Sandra Cohen’s memory be a blessing to all who loved her.
