It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Kurland, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jerry lived a life marked by vision, creativity, determination, and a deep devotion to his family.
Born in Montreal, Canada, on October 10, 1933, Jerry built a remarkable life defined by both professional accomplishment and personal warmth. He married the love of his life, June, in Ottawa, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was one of unwavering love, friendship, and mutual support.
He is predeceased by his father Jacob and his mother Emily and his brother Max. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, June; his son, Jayde (Emily); his cherished grandsons, Zachary and Andrew; his brother, Ralph; and his sister, Shirley (Larry). He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
A graduate of Syracuse University, Jerry earned a degree in Architecture and carried the principles of design, innovation, and thoughtful planning throughout his distinguished career. He was a true visionary who possessed the rare ability to see possibilities where others saw obstacles.
Among the highlights of his architectural career were the design of numerous distinctive vacation homes, the Boy Scouts of Canada Headquarters building, and a prominent Chinese restaurant and banquet hall on Montreal’s South Shore. Demonstrating his commitment to authenticity and excellence, Jerry traveled to China to personally select antique artifacts that became an integral part of the restaurant’s unique décor.
Later, Jerry moved to Hollywood, Florida, where he designed and developed the Bonaventure Golf and Country Club, a project that reflected both his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. His work transformed ideas into lasting accomplishments that positively impacted the communities and people around him.
In retirement, Jerry and June settled in Longwood, Florida, near Orlando. Jerry remained active in his interests and community, serving as President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Orlando, where he combined his love of history, family, and connection with others.
Jerry will be remembered not only for what he achieved in life, but for the way he made people feel—respected, supported, encouraged, and loved. He approached life with curiosity, imagination, and generosity, leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the buildings he designed.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing.
