Larry Kanner, 76, of DeBary, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on May 14, 1950, in the Bronx, New York, to the late Herbert & Joan (Krischner) Kanner and Larry was a true New Yorker at heart. He went on to live in Manhattan and kept a beloved weekend home in Taconic, NY, before later making Florida his home.

Larry built a successful career as the owner of a commercial flooring business in Manhattan, but music was his true passion. Larry attended the Berklee College of Music, and was an accomplished jazz drummer who played in jazz clubs throughout New York City. His love of the arts extended well beyond jazz — he was a devoted fan of opera and Broadway, and found joy and meaning in every note.

More than his talents or his work, Larry will be remembered for his heart. He had a warm, magnetic personality and a genuine curiosity about the people around him — he always asked, and he always cared. Thoughtful, kind, and endlessly loving, Larry was adored by everyone fortunate enough to know him, and he leaves behind a wide circle of friends and family whose lives he touched.

Larry is survived by his wife, Judith Topper; his sister, Cheryl Kanner; and his brother, Steven Kanner. He also leaves behind Judith’s four children and their spouses, and five grandchildren who brought him great joy: Avigail, twins Arya and Eli, Carly, and four-month-old Andre. Larry will be deeply missed, but his music, his warmth, and his love will stay with all of us.

Memorial Service for Larry will be held 10:00 AM, Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the Chapel of Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel (835 Lee Road, Orlando, FL 32810) with Rabbi David Kay officiating. May he rest in peace and may his memory always be a blessing.
