Selma (Oxman) Katz, residing in White Plains, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on November 27, 2025.
Born on June 25, 1933 to Anna and Charles Oxman of the Bronx, New York, Selma made a life with Kenneth Morton Katz and their two children Ann Julie and Richard Jay in Queens, New York.
Selma was a diligent student and teacher of music. As a young girl, she learned piano at the Juilliard School of Music in Manhattan. After attending Hunter College, Selma worked as an elementary school music teacher at P.S. 159 in Bayside, Queens. Her career spanned four decades and thousands of children. Through her retirement in Clermont, Florida, Selma accompanied community theater productions, further spreading her gift of music.
Selma was a woman of couth and class — she traveled the world; she held Met Opera season tickets; she spoke French. She will be remembered for her spunk, grit, and compassion.
Selma was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and brothers Harold and Jack. Selma is survived by her children Julie, Richard, and Cynthia. She has four grandchildren: Geoffrey, Kaitlyn, Alexandra, and David.
Graveside Service will be held 11:30 AM, Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Florida National Cemetery, (6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513) with Rabbi Steven Cardonick officiating. May she rest in peace and may her memory always be a blessing.
